Functional binders for waste materials – Essential improvements using the capabilities of nonwovens
The project’s objective is to advance thermo-bonded nonwoven technologies and compatible binder fibres, to create resource-efficient and sustainable products, processes, and solutions, across the entire value chain, from product design to end-of-life management.
The primary goal is to enhance binder fibre use in thermo-bonded nonwovens for various applications by incorporating textile or glass fibre waste. To optimise performance, the selection of binders and process settings will be refined, tested and evaluated in prototypes. Additionally, the project aims to improve understanding of the system-wide requirements needed for effective implementation. As industries like interiors, construction, workwear, furniture, and automotive show interest in these materials, workshops will be organised to identify sector specific needs and opportunities. Establishing new and expanded partnerships will be crucial for implementing innovative solutions and achieving true circularity through deeper collaboration. The project will promote resource-efficient raw material use, reduce global GHG emissions, and develop resilient value chains while fostering collaborations that drive sustainable production and consumption within planetary boundaries. It will provide key insights for a coming innovation and development project.
