Resilient domestic industrial production through feedstock from chemically recycled textile waste
More than 100 million tonnes of textiles are produced every year, globally. Only a few percent are recycled. The textile industry accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions. At the same time, our Swedish manufacturing industry in particular suffers from a great shortage of recycled and domestically produced inputs. CelluCircle’s innovation addresses both of these challenges.
The overall goal of the project is to build a pilot plant for chemical recycling / processing of used textiles into advanced Nanomaterials that can serve as high-value inputs in domestic industrial production.
In the Pilot Plant, the patent-pending process will be tested in realistic conditions. Materials will be sent to customers to ensure market acceptance.
CelluCircle’s ambition is to eventually, with full-scale facilities, be able to recycle 30% of Sweden’s total textile consumption and at the same time contribute 30,000 tonnes of new bio-based and domestically produced input goods to Swedish industrial production. This will significantly reduce Sweden’s carbon footprint, and greatly increase resilience, in line with Net Zero Industries’ long-term impact goals.
