Woolution – Scalable solutions for a circular and resilient textile system
The demand for textile fibers is expected to increase significantly by 2050, risking increased fossil dependency unless bio-based alternatives are established. Wool is a local, renewable, recyclable and compostable fiber with reat potential in a circular economy. Despite this, more than half of Swedish wool is discarded annually, while Sweden imports over 1,700 tons.
Woolution aims to establish a large-scale, resilient and traceable system demonstrator in Sörforsa (Hudiksvall) integrating the entire wool value chain – from collection and grading to scouring, spinning and product development. Initial capacity is 100 tons of washed wool per year, with the goal of reaching 500 tons (equivalent to half of Sweden’s wool production). In the long term, the concept can be scaled across the Nordic and Baltic regions.
The system demonstrator will build industrial capacity and contribute to climate transition, regional resilience and the sustainable manufacturing industry of the future.
