About Net Zero Industry

Net Zero Industry brings together industry, the public sector and academia to accelerate the transition to a climate-neutral and globally competitive manufacturing industry in Sweden.

Our mission: ensure a competitive and resilient Swedish manufacturing industry with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.

Sweden’s discrete manufacturing sector* employs more than 400,000 people, accounts for 30% of the country’s exports of goods and services and generates over 8% of Sweden’s GDP in industrial value added. However, in an increasingly uncertain global environment, a rapid transition towards net zero and more resilient value chains is essential to secure long-term competitiveness.

These challenges cannot be solved through isolated technological solutions. The transition must take place at system level, across the entire value chain. That is why we take a broad approach, addressing materials, products, production, business models, policy and regulation, infrastructure, as well as values and culture through collaboration, innovation and investment.

Our goal is to make net zero a strategic advantage and strengthen the competitiveness, resilience and global leadership of Swedish manufacturing.

*What is meant by discrete manufacturing?

The term discrete manufacturing refers to industries that produce items with a distinct and often traceable identity. These may be finished products, such as vehicles, or components, such as compressors, that later form part of a final product. The definition does not generally include process industries or the food industry, although these can also be considered manufacturers in a broader sense.
