International projects strengthen circular value creation
Through international R&D projects within Eureka Circular Value Creation, new solutions are being developed that make circular business models scalable and competitive. The initiative contributes to strengthening the industry’s transition towards net-zero emissions and more competitive and resilient value chains.
Interest in international collaboration on the circular economy is high. Eureka Circular Value Creation is a European initiative that supports international R&D projects in developing scalable solutions for circular value creation in industry. Actors from 16 countries are participating in the call.
The initiative aims to go beyond traditional recycling and waste management. Instead, it focuses on developing new strategies for product design, material selection and business models, as well as creating cross-sector partnerships that enable circular solutions at scale.
– Circular value creation is essential for enabling industry to combine climate benefits with strengthened competitiveness and resilience. Through international collaboration, we can accelerate the development of solutions that have a real impact across value chains, says Cecilia Ramberg, Call Manager at Net Zero Industry.
Projects driving progress
Two of the projects receiving support within the initiative are TranscCoDe and SOLVE, both addressing key challenges in the transition to a circular economy.
The international project TranscCoDe brings together academia and industry from several European countries to develop scalable solutions for reuse, refurbishment and remanufacturing. The project combines product and production system design with reverse logistics and business innovation. Among other things, AI-based quality control and digital product passports are used to enable efficient data sharing between actors in the value chain.
In the Swedish consortium, ABB and Linköping University contribute expertise in industrial demonstrators and sustainable business models. The aim is to demonstrate how circular value creation can become a competitive advantage even in large-scale industrial operations.
The SOLVE project focuses on developing a digital platform that enables companies to design, simulate and optimise circular value networks. The platform integrates product design, business strategy and partner capabilities into a model-based system solution that supports evidence-based decision-making and real-time control.
By validating the solution in industrial use cases within sectors such as automotive and healthcare, the project aims to contribute to more resource-efficient and resilient circular ecosystems.
– This type of international R&D project is crucial for strengthening Europe’s innovation capacity and for developing solutions that can be widely implemented across industry. Through the Eureka collaboration, companies and research actors are given the opportunity to take the next step towards a circular economy together, says Tero Stjernstoft, Programme Officer at Vinnova.
Support for projects aligned with Net Zero Industry’s mission
The initiative funds projects that are relevant to Net Zero Industry’s mission of achieving a competitive and resilient manufacturing industry with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. A total of up to SEK 12.4 million is allocated to selected applications.
