Innovating Remanufacturing
Remanufacturing is a circular strategy with great potential for upscaling and transitioning to sustainable business and environmental savings, with increased resilience as an additional effect in a turbulent world. The Innovate Remanufacturing project aims to 1) provide practical support to companies that want to take concrete steps to transition to a circular business model through remanufacturing and 2) actively develop a more resilient and robust society through circular component and product flows. At the core of step 2 of Innovate Remanufacturing is the combination of product disassembly as an educational tool for idea generation with practical implementation through pilot development of products redesigned for remanufacturing.
The project’s goals are:
- Practical support for companies that want to work with remanufacturing, through
- Dismantling with experts (remanufacturing, various techniques) for learning and innovation in various areas of remanufacturing (design, business, product, process)
- Practical development and implementation through pilot development of products and business for remanufacturing, as well as supporting companies in understanding the potential of remanufacturing to reduce climate footprint and increase resilience
- Business model development for remanufacturing, including economic evaluation
- Studying suitable methods for ‘state of health’ assessment for selected products and pilots within the project
- Exploring digitalisation for more efficient remanufacturing processes
- Development of guidance for starting up remanufacturing processes and businesses, for wide dissemination across various industrial sectors
- Contribute to resource efficiency, reduced climate impact and increased resilience in industry and society through increased remanufacturing
The project will develop practical cases and lessons learned that contribute to a greater understanding of how remanufacturing can be scaled up on an industrial scale. The overall ambition is to promote broader implementation of remanufacturing within Swedish industry, which in turn strengthens the industry’s resilience, competitiveness and resource efficiency.
