BIOCORE: Biogenic PCBs for Resilience and Resource Efficiency

The BIOCORE project aims to revolutionize the electronics industry by replacing fossil-based and hazardous materials in printed circuit boards (PCBs) with PaperShell’s biogenic copper-clad laminates (CCLs). These plant-based materials offer up to 78% CO₂ reduction and eliminate toxic substances like TBBPA and epoxy. Through collaboration between RISE, PaperShell, Cogra, and Pricer, the project will develop fire-retardant, multilayer compatible, and mechanically processable CCLs, advancing them to TRL 7–8. The results will be tested in real applications and evaluated technically, environmentally, and economically. BIOCORE supports a circular, resilient, and climate-neutral electronics industry.
