READY 2 – Sustainable, robust and resource-efficient sawmill industry with dynamic maintenanc
READY2´s purpose is to create sustainable, robust and resource-efficient wood manufacturing focusing on the entire value chain. This will be achieved with new innovative human-centered, dynamic resource-efficient maintenance ensuring operational reliability through technology that promotes a socially sustainable work environment. The project fills an important gap in industry and research, as maintenance and operational reliability in wood manufacturing has lacked innovation focus and is a relatively unexplored area. Dynamic maintenance includes new working methods, new techniques, internal and external collaboration, and cultural and organizational change. Focusing on operational reliability with dynamics in maintenance reduces disruptions, creates more stable processes, optimizes material use and extends machine life. This contributes to resource efficiency, reducing material waste and energy savings, leading to reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Increased competitiveness and transformation of wood manufacturing’s value chain requires new thinking amid Industry 4.0/5.0. To succeed, human creativity, inclusive and learning organizations are needed. Radical organizational changes are crucial for effective dynamic maintenance that contributes to sustainability. Dynamic maintenance with strong wood manufacturing value chain collaboration creates more resilient maintenance. Dissemination of these maintenance concepts is expected to benefit more companies and industries. Dynamic maintenance creates an integrated approach to maintenance and supports operations where multiple industrial eras coexist. The new concept challenges the current silo mentality and view of maintenance, and promotes a human-centered and data-driven way of working. Dynamics in planning is achieved through predictive maintenance, while dynamic business development is required for successful transformation. The former involves coordination of maintenance and manufacturing and planning of maintenance based on real conditions. The latter involves, among other things, an integrated approach to maintenance throughout the operation, coordination of internal and external actors, need-based technology development and implementation, ensuring skills needs, creating a socially sustainable work environment and a culture of change. READY2 includes data-driven intelligent technology solutions in symbiosis with organizational change work to create a methodology for resource-efficient human-centered dynamic maintenance with a systems perspective in an area with great potential to become more sustainable, robust and resilient.
