IDEA: Information and data sharing for circular flows of end-of-life electric vehicle batteries

The transition to electrified transport means that an increasing number of electric vehicle batteries will eventually reach the end of their service life in vehicles. To ensure these batteries can be managed safely and in a circular manner, effective information flows between all actors in the value chain are essential.

The IDEA project aims to improve information and data sharing between emergency services, workshops, dismantlers, logistics companies, and actors involved in reuse and recycling. The objective is to create better conditions for safe handling and increased resource efficiency.

The project will:

  • map current information flows and identify gaps
  • analyse relevant European initiatives and standards
  • identify risks that arise when critical information is missing or not shared
  • develop proposals for how digital tools can support actors throughout the value chain

The outcome will be a concept for a future digital solution that can be implemented on a larger scale and support upcoming initiatives in circular battery use.
