EvoShell: Development of Swedish bio-based materials for broad market implementation

EvoShell is a research project where PaperShell, Reselo, RISE and Rimowa collaborate to develop a fully bio-based composite material with improved impact strength and ductility. By combining PaperShell’s wood-based material with Reselo’s rubber material from birch bark, current limitations in mechanical performance are addressed.

The goal is to enable use in demanding applications such as suitcases and vehicle components. The material will be tested by RISE against Rimowa’s requirements, and demonstrators will be manufactured and evaluated. The project promotes Sweden’s transition to a fossil-free, circular economy through the use of local raw materials and industrial innovation.

The results will be commercialized through existing production and distribution channels, with potential for broader application.
