Net Zero Cell Factory for Styrene production
The Project aims to evaluate the business case for bio synthesis of styrene for Zero Emissions rubber materials used in, for example, car tyres and many other applications, using captured CO2 as ‘food’ for Net Zero Cell Factories. Capsol Technologies, a specialist CO2 capture company will provide technical and analytical information to enable the project team to test viable scenarios for utilisation and valorisation of captured CO2 (CCU). The Project will lead a Reference Group of companies that will participate in workshops to work through credible business models and investment requirements. To accurately assess the business case, Uppsala University will conduct experiments to quantify the production volume of usable styrene in cell factories. An existing percussor strain will serve as the foundation for experiments involving further engineering of photosynthetic cell factories.
