How are SMEs involved in the path to net zero?
As industry transitions to become climate neutral and achieve resource-efficient products and processes, the involvement and contribution of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is crucial.

SMEs play a vital role in the value chains where products are developed and manufactured. At Net Zero Industry, we focus daily on our mission to reduce the carbon footprint and accelerate the manufacturing industry’s movement towards more sustainable solutions and processes. To achieve this, we have a special focus on the challenges and needs of smaller companies.
To get a clear picture of the needs of SMEs and the key actions that can support them, we invited different actors in the SME support system to a workshop. The day was a mix of presentations and group work, and the level of engagement was high to say the least.
– The workshop gave us several clear messages about fundamental issues and that there is a demand for a platform where existing important initiatives come together to act both locally and nationally. Among other things, there needs to be support for competitive implementation of green technology development, regulatory compliance, business models and circular value chains, says Dan Carlsson, responsible for SMEs within Net Zero Industry.
The goal is to take a first initiative in 2025 for a broad collaboration between different actors in the system, focusing on how smaller companies can integrate in practice to help the manufacturing industry achieve the mission of being climate neutral by 2040.
