Net Zero Industry accelerates the industrial transition

In just two years, Net Zero Industry has brought together hundreds of companies, researchers and societal stakeholders in a joint initiative to strengthen the competitiveness of Swedish industry through the transition to net zero. The programme’s first Impact Report highlights significant learning and promising results already at this early stage. It also presents important insights for the strategic work ahead.
Swedish manufacturing industry plays a central role in the country’s exports, innovation and welfare, while at the same time facing a major transformation.
This first Impact Report summarises the programme’s initial two years. Since its launch, more than 600 organisations have participated in over 100 research and innovation projects, representing a total project volume of more than SEK 500 million.
– We see strong commitment from industry and the entire innovation ecosystem. In a short time, we have initiated new collaborations and a range of promising projects that lay the foundation for a faster transition, says Sofia Wieselfors, Programme Director of Net Zero Industry.
The programme has gradually developed a more mission-driven and system-oriented approach. Through deeper analysis, broad dialogue with industry and clearer prioritisation of initiatives, better conditions are being created to direct resources where they can make the greatest impact.
– To succeed, individual technical solutions are not enough. We also need to develop business models, skills and collaborations that make net zero a competitive advantage for industry, says Cecilia Ramberg, Deputy Programme Director and Head of Calls at Net Zero Industry.
Looking ahead, the programme will prioritise more targeted projects that accelerate progress towards the mission, as well as dedicated support for small and medium-sized enterprises and skills development. A strong focus will be placed on fact-based analyses to identify where the most critical challenges lie and where the programme can enable the greatest impact.
The ambition is to position Swedish manufacturing industry as a global frontrunner in the green transition, where climate benefits, resilience and competitiveness are developed together.
