Adaptive Gate Control for Next-Generation Electric Vehicle Inverters
Current role and organisation – and planned mobility placement:
Lakshmi Priya Gandla is a Researcher in Power Electronics at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. As part of the project, the mobility placement will take place at Volvo Cars, enabling close interaction with engineers working with power electronics and electric drive systems.
The purpose is to combine RISE’s research expertise in power electronics with Volvo Cars’ industrial experience in electric drive systems. The project focuses on investigating the potential of active gate control for SiC-based traction inverters and assessing its impact on efficiency, electromagnetic interference and semiconductor stress under relevant automotive conditions.
The mobility also aims to strengthen knowledge exchange between research and industry and develop competence in next-generation power electronics for electrified vehicles.
The work is carried out jointly by RISE and Volvo Cars. The mobility includes working at Volvo Cars’ premises as needed for the project activities, combined with analysis, modelling, simulation and validation activities performed within RISE. Regular technical discussions and joint reviews will connect the research activities with relevant industrial requirements and challenges.
The project is expected to provide an evaluation of selected active gate-control strategies and an assessment of their potential and limitations for future automotive applications. The results will strengthen competence in Silicon Carbide-based power electronics, provide a basis for future research and development, and support long-term collaboration between RISE and Volvo Cars.
This also matches the activity structure we defined in the Project Agreement: industrial challenge identification, gate-control evaluation, system-level feasibility assessment and knowledge exchange.
